a.k.a. Keep it simple, learning to market your business
This is part 5 in a series of articles that I’m writing with the intention of helping people that are brand new to Internet marketing get off on the right foot. In my previous articles I have talked about choosing a business that is right for you. In this article I am going to assume that you have made your choice and picked one of my businesses, just kidding, and that you are ready to start promoting your business.
In most cases if you choose wisely the online business you joined will provide you with a lot of training so that you are knowledgeable about the company and the product you’re promoting. They will also provide marketing tools that you’re going to need, things like referral urls, banners, email scripts and so on. Go to your back office it won’t be long before you’ll understand what all of these things are. Now with any luck at all they will have suggested ways that you can use the marketing tools they provided to promote your new business. Things like pay per click ads, forums, safelists, traffic exchanges, article submissions, etc etc and the list goes on.
Here’s the problem the way I see it. Lots of affiliate programs say that they’re going to train you from start to finish but all too often they treat you like you’re a computer expert or that you have been marketing for a long time so that when they explain “everything you need to know” they leave out a lot of the fine details. Well unless you’re a lot smarter than I am or a lot more experienced than I am you’re going to be reeling from this overwhelming training schedule. Trying to keep up with all of that training can be mind boggling and lets face it all you want to do is get going. You want to start building your business and you want to start making some money. You’re like a little kid a Christmas.
Christmas day is for playing you can read the directions later after the novelty wears off.
One more problem I found with almost every affiliate program I looked at is that you most likely came in to the training somewhere in the middle. Remember unless the company is brand-new you all didn’t start at the same time. It’s up to you to play catch up.
So I say nuts to this. Lets get going.
The point in all of this is you have a new business or product to promote. Your job is to get people to look at your website and yes you will have a website just like the one you saw when you joined your business that the company provided for you with your own unique referral url. Yah, there I go talking about your URL again, don’t worry it will all come together for you.
One of the best, the fastest and the cheapest ways to attract people to your website is by taking advantage of Traffic Exchanges as a matter of fact you may have found your new business on a traffic exchange. Here’s how it works. In order to be able to advertise your business on a traffic exchange otherwise known as a TE (because I’m tired of typing out Traffic Exchange) you will have to become a member of the TE. Almost every TE out there offers a free membership and of course paid memberships. After all the owner of the TE ain’t runnin’ the thing out of the kindness of his heart. Unless you have a massive advertising budget I’m going to suggest that you start as a free member, you can always upgrade to a paid membership later when your business starts to bring in some coin.
The way the TEs work is quite simple which is good considering the title of my article is “keep it simple”. You simply apply for your membership and you go to the TE’s surf page and start looking at the other advertiser’s ads by clicking on the link that takes you there. Don’t worry you’ll get the hang of it it’s easy. For every ad you look at you’ll receive credit towards running your own ad. As soon as you have a few credits you simply go to your back office, the TE has provided one for you, and list the referral url that you want to promote and that’s it.
In some cases you may have to write some eye catching ad copy or headlines but I don’t think it’s worth getting uptight about it. Remember all the other advertisers are there clicking on other peoples’ ads so that they can get their own advertising credits.
That’s it. Get started. You’ll be promoting your business in no time.
Some online marketers think that the TEs are a waste of time and that they really don’t work. Come back for part 6 in my Marketing Can Be Easy series and I’ll explain why they think they don’t work and how you can get the most out of this incredible free advertising resource.
If you would like me to recommend some of my favorite TE’s please email me at the address just below my signature.
