With so many new and innovative products on the market today for our gardens, the area of garden design has really come into its own. It can get confusing with so much on the market to choose from. Hopefully some of the confusion will be cleared up here. As always, get the basics right and the rest will follow.
The Many Styles Of Garden Design
There are basically two types of a garden design today, the formal garden design and the informal garden design. The formal garden will have structure in the design elements whereas the informal will be random in looks, almost casual in actual fact, each plant, ornament, path etc will have followed a particular design. Informal garden designs are sometimes harder to design than the formal type garden.
Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
The design should be pleasing to the eye, so all gardens should be designed to be enjoyed. Designing a garden for a person who likes the traditional, would be more the formal type of garden design, those liking all things modern will probably go for the minimalist, non-fussy style with maybe sculptures to enhance. A romantic will enjoy the cottage garden design and practical people will lean towards the informal, low maintenance design with clever planting, pathways that lead to somewhere, not much in the way of lawns and a herb and vegetable garden.
Practical Garden Design Can Be Incorporated Too
If you like the very modern style garden but still want to have your herbs and vegetables growing, then screen off an area where you can have the herb and vegetable gardens and also include the utilities in this area, like your compost bins, potting table and the garbage bins. This could all be set up nicely and become a wonderful retreat for the vegie gardener.
Garden Rooms Are A Wonderful Way To Please All
While we are all different and this is good, when it comes to a garden design that has to be shared, this can be a problem as to what style of garden design. Why not use the 'room' garden design. This is easily done by creating areas or rooms as they are called today, in your garden design that are the styles you each like. You each select the style to suit you for your garden room.
Compliment The Buildings
Remember to always make sure your garden design compliments your home. A very modern home will not sit right in a very cottage style garden neither would a modern Mexican style go with a traditional 19th century home.
Do Your Homework
If you are unsure, do a little searching on the Internet or local libraries and bookstores are also good places to search. When you get your wonderful ideas, why not take a look at some garden design software to help you put it all together.
When you go to the trouble of designing your garden, make sure it has all the elements you want, so you will be able to enjoy it.
