You've finished building your website. Now there's all that invaluable traffic just waiting to beat a path to your site. You've dotted all your I's, crossed all your T's and followed the standard to get the word out about your new site. You wear out a path in your carpet from pacing back and forth. In between your pacing you check your server logs, hoping for that sudden surge of visitors. The reality is, unless you are Corporate America with a huge advertising budget, the days of staggering increases in traffic are quite a way down the road. "But, Isn't there something I can be doing while I wait for the Search Engine Traffic to come?"

As a matter of fact there is. Yet this form of Web Site promotion doesn't make the Headlines. It really doesn't get talked about much and yet is a viable traffic generator. What's more it's Free.

Now before I reveal this technique, I want you to promise you'll stay away from the delete button and you'll give me a chance to lay this thing out for you. Promise? O.K. The technique is "Posting to Forums." By utilizing this method, You can hope to get a couple hundred visitors in the first couple of days of your sites launch. This will be small in comparison to the knowledge you'll attain, by allowing the members of these forums to critique your site. Having your site critiqued by experienced marketers, For Free, Well, Let's just say, "You can't beat the price."

If you've never visited or posted in a forum. Don't be intimidated. These are people, No different than you and I. Merely a group of somewhat, like minded individuals, seeking to get answers to their questions or providing answers to questions asked. Usually on a specific topic or topics.

Side Note: Before you do any form of posting, Make Sure you read the "Rules of Posting" in each forum. Read some of the posts being made. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

Once you understand the rules of posting and your confident you've got the hang of it, keep your initial posts simple, remembering to be polite and helpful. A word to the wise: Don't go announcing your site to every forum you come across. This will be viewed as board spamming and is considered a definite No No. Stay on topic and announce your site in the forums that allow this form of posting.

Finding forums is as easy as doing a search in your favorite search engine. I use "Google" for all my searches. Simply type "Forums" into the search box. Once you get a list, there will be many, you can refine your search from there, to meet your specific needs.

As I mentioned earlier, As a newcomer to the forums, remember to mind your manners. Politeness and kindness will go a long way in building relationships with the members. Initially you may be asked to look at other members sites, before you ask that they look at yours. This is a good thing, since you can apply what you find wrong with anothers site, to your own. you can make the changes before having your site looked at.

Now, You'll not get a Ton of Traffic by posting in forums but you will have engaged in an effective form of site promotion. All forms of effective promotion must be entered into the mix. I read somewhere that "You Don't Need To Get It Right, You Just Need To Get It Going." By applying the above you will, "Get It Going."

Forums are a Great place to make new friends and interact with people that are trying to accomplish pretty much the same things we are. So keep things rolling right along by, "Posting to Forums."
