The time is now to begin establishing your credit record, so when you graduate it will be there waiting for you. Your credit rating comes into consideration when you apply for a job with almost any major company now, so if you plan on getting a decent job when you graduate you will need a good credit rating along with your degree to qualify you.

Getting a credit card and using it prudently is the best way to begin establishing a positive credit rating and the fact you may not have a full time job doesn’t necessarily disqualify you from receiving a credit card. The first thing that you need to do is to formulate a strategy on how you are going to obtain your first credit card and then implement it.

One thing that you don’t want to do is to randomly apply for credit cards, because the rejections that you receive can reflect negatively on your credit report. The easiest way to obtain a credit card is to use a co signer, such as your parents, a close friend or relative. Another way to quickly and expediently obtain a credit card is to apply for a secured credit card using money that you may now already have in savings.

Having a credit card is a security net that you can carry in your wallet if you ever need cash for emergencies. You are also going to need a credit card to rent a car if you ever need one. Establishing a positive credit rating can take years to do, so the sooner you get started the sooner you will begin to see results. There are many great sources for information online for you to refer to if you are ready to take the first steps in establishing a positive credit rating by getting a credit card.
