The two main ways to get back links is to either exchange links with other sites or buy links off of high pagerank (PR) sites. Buying links will give your website a better boost in the search engines as they are one way, when you exchange a link with someone they will require a reciprocal link to their site.
That will only take you so far, you can also try out ppc (pay per click) companies such as Google Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing in order to drive targeted traffic to your website for a cost per click which is often set by you. This is a good method to make profit if you are selling a product, the idea behind it is that you buying traffic at a set cost per click such as 10 cents per click and hope that one will convert into a lead making you revenue, for example $10. As you can see from this you will need 1 person to convert every 100 in order to be making a profit.
You can also do marketing offline, if you put posters up advertising what your site can offer this will bring small amounts of traffic. If you’re able to get an advert on the TV then this will sky rocket your website.
There are many webmaster forums and sites that will give you great tips on how to get your website number one for desired keywords. Be sure to research your niche to make sure that the competition isn’t too high as it will be harder to get a regular flow of traffic. You can use keyword suggestion tools in order to target the right keywords to get the full potential out of your website.
