It is often said that the biggest job a child should have is to play. This is very true, and it is a very important job. As a child grows, and begins to play, they are beginning to learn and develop as well. Children learn almost entirely through play. Therefore, when you say a child’s job is their play, it ís not only true, but it is a job of a massive significance few ever seem to realize.

Children develop all their necessary skills for living early in their life. From learning to be creative, to learning how to interact socially, to learning to read, it is all formed in childhood, and all is learned primarily, and learned best through play.

Fine motor skills, and gross motor skills are developed through play time. A child playing with a puzzle or arts and crafts is working on their fine motor skills, their hand to eye coordination. This hand to eye coordination will become the basis for their eventual literacy. A child playing with a ball, bouncing it against a wall, or throwing it up and catching it, kicking it, is working on their gross motor skills. The gross motor skills are important for overall body control later in life, and without that essential play early in life, they are severely limited in many arenas.

If you are interested in helping your child develop, for example their creative side, and their social development, have you thought much about pretend play? From pretending to be a doctor, to pretending to be a ballerina, it teaches various developmental keys which will help give your child a happy, secure future. Always remember just how essential play is to your child’s overall development. In keeping this in mind, by merely playing with your child, or through getting your child excellent developmentally stimulating toys such as kids puzzles, building blocks, arts and crafts, or pretend play toys, you are forming a base of familiarity with skills that will be required of them the rest of their entire life. Always keep in mind, playing is the essential part. Play and grow with your child!
