Nevertheless, AC Milan has in mind to file an appeal against the punishment given to the 34-year- old Brazilian star. The commotion arose after a Celtic fan apparently stuck Dida close to the end of the match where the club defeated their opponents 2-1. Now, the European champions refuse to leave the situation as is, being that the club does not agree with Dida having to miss out on two matches.
On the other hand, the Celtic have been found responsible of lack of organization and unacceptable behavior of followers. These activities have caused the club to now have to pay the sum of the £25,000 in which half of the total must be paid now and the remainder over a two year probationary period.
Peter Lawwell, chief executive of Celtic, is in agreement with the fine imposed on the club and even stated the following in reference to the outburst, "As a club we feel this penalty is proportionate to the incident in question and a fair outcome. We took this matter extremely seriously and following an immediate internal investigation took swift and firm action against the offender. Celtic FC will continue to take all organizational, security and health and safety matters as its first priority."
Yet Dida was strongly criticized by fans and the UEFA itself for overreacting and for lack of sportsmanship. According to Rob Faulkner, representatives for UEFA, when such incidents occur that engage fans, the club members should not retaliate in any way against them.
However, the Italian club feels the ban against Dida is completely unfair and if they are unable to win the appeal the star will miss out on the Champions League double-header with Group D leaders Shaktar Donestk.
