The tourism demand is characterized by many factors. The great role among them play the macro determinants of demand. There four of them: social factors, technological factors, economic factors and political factors.
The social factors are connected with the growth of the population which affects the increase of travel tendencies. The population every year develops and seeks the new ways of expression. The people try to find the time and the possibility to travel and to visit different countries and in this way they increase the quality of the life.
The social changes after the Second World War also influenced the travel demand. Since the war the population became older because of the death and a slowing of the birth amount. The older age groups prefer the more calm and quiet rest and have some special requests to the service and accommodation.

The important factor of the tourist demand is the technology. For example the development of transport system, entertainment technologies make possible to extend the amount of travelers and lower the costs for the traveling. These factors make the traveling more available.
The next factor is the economy. During the last years the services bring the largest part of national incomes. The tourism services became more qualitative and it attracts more and more consumers. As more countries have very attractive and potentially profitable but yet not very developed resorts, the good way to get more money is to invest costs into foreign economy.
Politics affects travel propensity activity in different ways, such as: the government involvement into the advertising and promoting of the tourist possibilities; the national support of free market and the protecting of the environment, that provide the independence for the foreign visitors.

There are four main policy instruments, which government bodies use to govern and manage the tourist demand: the control, marketing and promotion, information and provision pricing.
