The United States of America has a great economics. Unfortunately its neighbor, Mexico, can’t boast about the same thing. Among the areas having the worst situation is one called the Maquiladoras.

Along the borders between Mexico and the United States of America lies the Maquiladora. On this territory there are many plants with low labor rates, built by the big companies from Japan, the United States of America and Korea. These manufacturing plants, owned by the foreigners, are called “maquiladoras”. These companies are looking for the cheap labor, and Mexicans are glad to provide; because even if their celeries are lower than the mandated minimum wage, they are still higher than on Mexican owned plants.

The process of a high level of unemployment in Mexico started in the 1960’s. Mexican government had to do something. The quality of life worsened day by day. There were some changes made which led to low wages, but ascertained new business. Powerful corporations were making new plants and new job vacancies.

The mandated minimum wage in Mexico corresponds to $4,20 per day. Even so the situation at maquiladoras is different. The wage there varies from $2,25 up to $3,85 per day. But the low celeries are not the only problem on the maquiladora plants. Some cases of terrorization are known. The workers were made to vote for the union closely tied to the Mexican government.

The outcome of maquiladoras’ productions benefits foreign business. Unfortunately there is not enough attention paid to the issues of health and safety of those who work on these plants. Unhealthy working conditions go against the people’s rights. The safety worries should be lifted to the top positions, as lives of workers are priceless. And it is not just the problem of Mexico. Everyone should be concerned.
