The requirement of home workers for data entry jobs is escalating day by day. Millions of people work from home on data entry projects. The number of employees applying for data entry jobs through traditional channels is decreasing and thus the employers are hiring freelancers. The prospects for this job are exceptional and it is a good option for ladies who are living at home with their children.
Data entry is needed by almost every company these days. Some need it for conducting demo and others need it to handle the customer database. Data entry is also relevant for writing taped words in spreadsheets for the purpose of scanning and easy access. Data entry can also be used for entering data in websites and E-books, or for maintaining a track of transactions of insurance claims.
The development of data entry began with the discovery of the electric punch card tabulator and the typewriter. Herman Hollerith invented the punched card device to help investigate the US census data. He got inspired from two sources i.e. the trains and the looms. His machines eventually formed the basis of the creation of the digital computer. As for the typewriter, it was introduced to the public in 1877.
Data processing is basically any computer process that changes data into information. Data-processing systems usually convert raw data into information by taking raw data as input to generate information as output. In addition to the repetitive typing work, proofreading, editing, database updating and many more appealing jobs are offered under this head of data entry. The editing of legal documents and novels is also included in this. The employees are paid on an hourly basis. The standard working hours for the employees are 40-hour per week. These are generally high school graduates who satisfy the requirements for keyboard speed.
Data entry work is being outsourced by companies, either through the process of mailing hard copies of its data forms or by scanning the electronic images of the same material. As the data entry work does not need advanced degree of computer technology or expertise, the outsourcing of this data is less difficult than other complex projects. Data entry also does not demand any regular communication between the employer and employee. The data entry projects are generally given by the companies of the developed countries to the employees of the poorer countries so that both the parties benefit equally. The developed countries get their work done in low prices and the developing countries gain high currency for their work.
There are two widely accepted methods that are used for outsourcing data entry projects. The first method involves; the training of the data entry professionals by the employers online and then the employing of these professionals for performing the work. In the other method, all the data entry work is given to another firm or company who gets the work done completely without bothering the parent company. Most of the companies have shifted to this approach as it is totally hassle free. The owner has to pay attention to the quality of work done by the employees, the expertise they have in this field and the quality of the data checked by these employees.
There is a need to spread awareness among the people so that they can register themselves in the online data entry projects that are readily available. This can remove the unemployment problem in the developing countries and can provide an additional income to the housewives, students etc.
