Over time, you may start to be perceived as an expert in your chosen news area. After all, you're blogging about the news on a daily basis so who better to ask when an opinion is needed?
News blogging is much the same as regular blogging except that, once you've chosen your topic, the stories you cover will be at least partially out of your control.
When you create a news blog you will also need to find a source of stories.
With the gigantic number of news sources available nowadays, this should be fairly easy.
Find a couple news feeds that relate to your topic and subscribe to them. Most news feeds offer different ways to subscribe, so investigate what's on offer from your chosen feeds. You may find it best to invest in an RSS feed reader that alerts you on your desktop every time a new relevant news story appears. Or you may find that too distracting and prefer the amalgamation offered by services like Google news alerts.
Whichever method you choose, make sure that you keep on top of your news blog.
News goes stale very fast.
Especially if you've chosen a fast moving news area. Less fast if you've been more selective in your news area. But you still need to keep on top of things. Even if you've chosen to report on an annual tournament as your main "news", people will soon realize if the most recent results are a year or more old.
So make sure that your chosen news area is one that you can reliably keep up with. If it seems like too much commitment when you're keen (for instance, when you're just starting your news blog) then it's going to be way too much work in a few months time.
Keep this in mind. It's far better to under-promise at the start. You can always start a new news blog once you've become comfortable with your first publishing venture.
