Over the past months, there has been an increase in violence during several football games; situation which seems to get even more complicated when the teams involved have had a previous rivalry. Just to mention a very clear example of this growing problem we have the Italian Calcio; one of the prefer ones worldwide, which continues to be the centre of attention regarding crowd troubles.

The Italian footballing authorities banned Roma fans to attend the San Siro Stadium due to a previous misbehaviour as the tifosi threw a home-made explosive to a Catania player (Antonio d'Agostino) during a football game. October 28th was the day of the match at which the Roma was to take the AC Milan; but not everyone was able to purchase tickets; as these were limited to home fans due to a high risk level declared.

Throughout Europe, football organizations are constantly working on preventing the ever-increasing hostility which is becoming a common reaction at the games; despite the banning to attend the stadiums; the larger fines to be paid by the sporting clubs and the possible closure of the arenas; it seems as the fans are just blasting their emotions without thinking about the permanent consequences their acting could bring.

In England banning orders of several years have been placed on six Hooligan fans, after an aggressive incident in Germany at which they ended up fighting each other. Adam Metcalf (23), was given a three-year banning order along with Oliver Hickmott (21), and Anthony McAllion, (49).

Some of the authorities involved such as the District Judge Peter Ward responded to these acts stating “there should be zero tolerance of football-related incidents.” "The public should not have to put up with people behaving in this way," he said. "The majority of people who go to football matches go to enjoy the match and it is not fair they should be put at risk because of the mindless, drink-fuelled behaviour of a small minority.

We certainly just hope these dark times the sport of football is going through could be soon stopped as it is setting an example for the younger generations to resolve all problems with a violent stroke.
