If you are like most modern people then you would love to have a home theater entertainment system. With a wall of sound and massive crystal clear picture, what's not to like. The biggest problem that most people have is the cost of these systems. After buying all of the components your bill can get quite high. I'll just touch on what these systems are made up of.

The first thing that most people will want is a large HDTV. Witch stands for High Definition Television. A HDTV will give you the ability to view HD programming witch is very high resolution that will give you a very sharp picture. This is your biggest ticket item and size and features will drive the price up quite a bit. At the time of this writing they could cost from 800 to several thousand.

Size is one of the most important features. You Can get smaller than 19" but a realistic size for a home theater shouldn't be any smaller then 32". A smaller TV will look sharper just because it isn't as stretched out as much with the same amount of pixels on the screen. A small image won't be nearly as exciting and the difference is usually minimal. Small price to pay to get a massive screen.

Image quality is the other thing people look out for. The big thing here is to look for what resolutions that the TVs will support. Some will do 720p, 1080I and 1080p. The higher you go up the more spendy they get of course. Once you know what resolution you want to stick with then compare the different TVs side by side to see which model you like the picture.

Sound is the other piece that is a very important part of a home theater system. Depending on how much you want to spend there are almost unlimited options. Most people are looking for less clutter and want something that will make good sound with out the big size. There are many systems the come with everything bundled together and are very compact.

For the people that don't care about the size and just want the very best of sound, you can by everything separate so you get the best of all of the components. With bundled systems they cut a few corners to keep cost down. Your options are virtually unlimited. The hardest part about this is that you have to match up all of your equipment. It can be a daunting task to get all of the correct equipment to work together.

Speakers are the most important part of your audio system. They output all of the sound the is coming out of your amplifier. If you have bad speakers that make you entire system sound horrible. It won't matter what amplifier you have. Just remember to match you system so you don't have one piece that is excellent and skimp on the others. Then it will be just like a bundled system because you cut corners.

Last but not least are the cables. Don't get the cheapest ones you can find. The ones that come with your DVD player are free for a reason. The higher the gauge of cables the worse the distortion of the signal. For most systems you won't need monster cable but don't just go out and buy 24 gauge speaker wire because you think wire is wire. Cable does make a difference but don't just listen to a Monster Cable rep. They will sell you something that is overkill for your system.

That is a brief overview of Home Theaters. For most people going out and buying a ready made bundle will be sufficient. Some of those systems sound great and have little wrong with them. For some people you can't beat the scalability of your custom system. If you're like me it will take me a long time to get everything but in the end it is worth it.
