The modern approach of teaching through creativity in the classroom has the effect of a child understanding their subject matter to a greater depth.

In the classroom today, children could be fortunate enough to have a teacher that uses the more progressive method of teaching children through creative means. The idea is that children are exposed to the same topic from many different vices. This brings them to actually experience the subject matter which leads them to understand the topic rather than to simply memorize it.

It used to be commonly believed that men of wisdom and exceptional intelligence expressed themselves through creative means. This process can also be reversed and help a mind to reach higher levels through the experience of art. If you were to imagine learning a new language through a book, but not actually putting it into practice you can see the limitations that learning through the printed word alone has.

The hearing and speaking of the words would most surely re-enforce what has been learnt, both through the use of it and through the further experience of giving your brain that much more to work with to remember the learning experience. This is the difference of learning through a text book and learning through something that you actually do.

Through the physical action associated with this style of learning the brain has the opportunity to store the new knowledge in the left-brain (academic) hemisphere as well as the right-brain (creative) hemisphere, offering more of an opportunity for easy memory recall.

On top of this, anything that you experience that stimulates your senses also stimulates your brain activity. The extra activity registers in your brain make-up actually increasing your brain’s usage and thought process ability. This means that not only does creativity assist in learning the current subject matter, but it also increases your ability to learn future topics with more ease as your brain has more preparatory ground work done and is therefore better equipped to handle the intake and recall of new information.

Although there is a tendency for parents to show concerns for their children’s learning environment when there is a lot of creativity happening in the classroom, the real fact is that they should be more concerned when there is not.
