The Little Mermaid” is here to steal your hearts! This latest Disney musical, which is based on the animated film of 1989 with the same title, made its world premiere for the Performing Arts' Ellie Caulkins Opera House, at the Denver Center, in July 2007. The official opening took place in the following month and will continue till the first week of September. This Disney musical will start its previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in the month of November, 2007. It will open officially on December 6, 2007.

There have been news of “the Little Mermaid” receiving some criticism on its direction and design, yet, it has sold about 95,000 seats in Denver, which has made it the most successful Disney tryout.

According to Thomas Schumacher, President of Disney Theatrical Productions, the creative team for the pre-Broadway tryout of this musical will include choreographer Stephen Mear, who has won the Olivier Award, costume designer Tatiana Noginova, scenic designer George Tsypin, and lighting designer Natasha Katz, who has won a Tony Award. Doug Wright has written the book for this musical. Wright is famous for his book “I Am My Own Wife” and has won the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award.


“The Little Mermaid” is directed by Francesca Zambello. The opening of the show was a special event for Francesca, as this was her debut Broadway production. The Denver cast includes Sierra Bogges in the role of Ariel, Sean Palmer in the role of Prince Eric, Norm Lewis in the role of King Triton, Derrrick Baskin playing Jetsam, Sherie Rene Scott playing Urusla, John Treacy Egan in the role of Chef Louis, and Jonathan Freeman in the role of Grimsby.

The story of “The Little Mermaid” revolves around Ariel, a beautiful mermaid who craves to explore the world outside the ocean. But, for doing this, she has to overcome many hurdles. The first one is her own father, who is the king of the sea. Then, there is the evil sea witch, who threatens to capture her. The last hurdle is convincing the prince that the lady with the perfect voice is no other but her.


The songs such as "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World" are among the most popular songs of Disney. The song “Under the Sea” has been written by the famous Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, who have won the Academy Award 8 times. No wonder that this song has won the Academy Award for the Best Original Song! The stage version of this Disney’s production also features latest songs by Glenn Slater and Menken.

“The Little Mermaid” promises to give you an entertaining journey under water. It is all set to generate waves of applause on Broadway. Therefore, it is advised to book your tickets in advance, either through the internet, or by dialing a number. There is going to be a huge rush at the box offices. So, before the house gets full, book your seats for the ultimate underwater experience now!
