We are a family of florists who made our living by selling flowers from a small outlet in one of the busiest streets in London. The business was not doing that well except during gifting occasions.

It was at this time that my friend asked me to take my business onto the Internet which would mean much more exposure for my business. With the help of another friend, I launched a simple website. However to my dismay, getting even one or two visitors in a day was difficult.

I now decided to take the help of an e-commerce consultancy firm to help boost my business. I did not have much money to invest. I had to search for an Internet consultancy firm that could take care of everything that would go into boosting my online business and be affordable at the same time. At last, I did find one.

I had a large number of discussions with them and some of the secrets that they disclosed to set up a successful online business really impressed me.

Rules for a Successful Website

  • Your website needs to load fast even with the slowest of internet connections.

  • Do not include components on your website that are not supported by certain browsers. Keep your design as simple as possible.

  • Avoid flash animations on the home page of your website.

  • The readability of the text on your web page is very important and is a contributing factor towards sales conversion. Use fonts that are big and easy on the eyes of the visitors to your website.

  • Provide a sitemap and search function on your webpage. This would aid in easy navigation between web pages for your customers.

Sales Page Design Secrets

  • Always talk about the benefits that the customer is likely to derive from the product rather than talking about the features of the product. You could tell them how your product could save money and time.

  • Address your customer on a one-to-one basis rather than writing a generic sales page.

  • Take a close look at all your competitor’s websites and speak on aspects that make you different from your competitors.

  • Do not write long paragraphs. Break them into small chunks and present ideas as bullet points.

  • Create a sense of urgency in your sales page that would urge customers to go for the product purchase. You can do this by offering them a deal on the product. You can also offer a lot of bonuses along with the product.

  • Build the value of the product before disclosing the price. You need to build the credibility in your customer’s mind. Also, you need to ensure that you don’t disclose your intentions very early.

  • If possible, try procuring the email address of your customers.

  • Offer multiple versions of the same product which would suit a wide variety of customers.

  • Build a frequently asked questions page that would address all pre and post sales queries of customers.

  • Timelines excite customers. If you could promise customers with specific timelines, you are bound to make a sale on that pitch. I had come across a website where they had provided a turn around time of 24 hours on the product delivery. They had gone a step ahead stating that if the product is not delivered within the specified timelines, the product would be given for free to the customer.

  • You can make such kind of promises only when you know that you will be able to deliver what you promise.

Website Marketing

The best way to market your products and services and eventually increase the number of visitors to your website will be to take the best advantage of the services. The more the number of back links that you receive for your website increases the visibility of your website on search engines. A back link would refer to a link residing on another webpage that point to your website.

You could increase the number of back links to your website by posting articles related to your products on different websites and providing a link to your site.
