So, what is the best cheap UK travel insurance insurance?

How many times has the holiday company you go with sold you travel insurance? Quite a few I bet.

Did you know they usually make over 500% on the travel insurance? For European travel insurance the average price you should be paying is around £5 to £7 per week, per person.

Travel agents will often charge between £15 and £25 for a week’s insurance. This certainly isn’t cheap travel insurance!

There are two types of cheap UK travel insurance available to you:

• Annual multi-trip travel insurance. This can be cheaper for you. It depends how many times you leave the country in one year. If you are away for at least a month during the year (you lucky thing) then consider getting annual multi trip insurance. This doesn’t work if you are taking a gap year round the world. You’ll need single trip insurance!

• Single trip insurance. Does what it says on the tin. We have the cheap travel insurance for the UK.

BE WARNED! If you have a credit card or a bank account that says it offers ‘free’ travel insurance PLEASE check all the details before you leave. This is cheap and nasty travel insurance. They are notoriously bad policies and won’t cover you for loss of luggage and many other things. Please, please check this before you go. It’s better to spend a fiver on some cheap travel insurance than be upset that you didn’t when you lose all your money!

REMEMBER to get cover for the correct countries you are going to. I.e. Check your geography! You don’t want to have Europe cover when you are going to Dubai and neither to you want USA cover when you are going to South America. There is not point trying to cheat the system and get cheap travel insurance this way. You’ll just end up losing everything if anything goes wrong.

REMEMBER to take your EHIC card to Europe with you – it’s the new E111 and it entitles the holder to free or discounted medical treatment in any EU country and also Switzerland. This is in addition to your cheap travel insurance not instead of it! If you don’t want to get it online then go to your local Post Office and get one.

REMEMBER to take extra cover if you are going to dangerous sports like skiing or skydiving.
