The number one way most couples visiting Maui for a destination wedding have their wedding on a beach. This is not the only option but there are some misconceptions about where one might host their wedding. In many publications that feature Maui weddings you will very often see a couple being married by a waterfall. This is a very idyllic scene and one many couple whish to replicate for themselves.

Please be aware that these beautiful locations in Mauiare often photographed on one of the 30-40 days in a full year that offer nice weather and a flowing waterfall. On those other days you will find it raining (to nourish that waterfall) or at least very cloudy or perhaps it is running dry during a small drought. There are NO naturally occurring waterfalls near any of Maui's most popular tourist spots. If you want a natural waterfall expect an hours drive.

One way to alleviate this is to have your Maui wedding at one of the many resort hotels that have created their own beautiful waterfall setting. Usually for a fairly large fee you can have your wedding at one of these nice resort sites. That is way so many couple decide to marry on the sand.

All of Maui's and all of the beaches in the Hawaiian Islands are public. You will find beach access to beaches where many of the rich and famous live. You can even marry in front of Clint Eastwoods Maui home if you desire (a very nice location).

Most of Maui's beach weddings are done right before sunset. An hour before is ideal to host the wedding (lasts 20-30 minutes) and shoot the photographs to the wedding and the subsequent sunset. A few choose another time though.

Morning weddings are also popular and allow for better photographs. The morning light is much brighter and shows color more intensely. Other wedding times are late afternoon to allow for the wedding party to attend a public luau which usually start at about 5 p.m. This requires a wedding start time of around 3 p.m. If this is of interest just be aware that this is a very hot time of day.
