Why PPC advertising can turn your website into a big hit

When I first came up with the idea to create a website selling various products the one thing that I could not figure out was how to advertise cheaply. Then a good friend of mine told me that maybe I should look into advertising using PayPerClick. So I started by doing some research and through tons of reading it looked like that if you implemented PPC the right way is could boost your website traffic by up to 40%. So I decided that I would use google ad words. I created my account set my spending limits added my keywords and sat back and waited for the traffic to start pouring in. Wait. Wait. Wait. Then I realized that I was not seeing the traffic I had hoped for. So then I started to do more and more research and it hit me what my problem was. I was using the wrong keywords. What I was doing was using the keywords that were very commom and that all my top competitors that are multi million dollar companies were paying $5 per click and I was only paying $.25. So when people searched for my keywords they barely ever seen my page. So what I did was used creativity coming up with keywords that were searched often but not alot of big companies used. After changing my whole search structure the traffic started pouring in and costing me money. But them costing me money is a good thing because at the same time they are buying products at a rampid pace. The one thing I want everyone to take from this article is to do your research beforing jumping into anything.
