When it comes to marketing online there are some skills that are required that you will need to use to be a successful copywriter. Use the following 5 strategies that experienced ad-copy authors use and you will see a marked improvement in your next sales letter, web page, or brochure.

1) Do your sentences go on and on like the Energizer Bunny?

Avoid lengthy sentences and extended paragraphs. No one said your piece had to be small and abreviated but just because you're elaborating on some complex technical information, doesn't mean you have to use sentences and paragraphs that never seem to end. Shorten up the jargon
and make it easy for the reader to understand the point not the fact that your a genius and can speak like a Rhodes Schollar.

2) Avoid overstating the obvious.

Numerous and repetive reminders are not a good strategy for writing with the intent to call your reader to action. Reffering back to your main point or call to action is good however if you refer to the "buy now" phrase to many times to frequently your reader will be gone in an instant.

3) Be specific.

Stop using words like a few , only a handful, many, approximately, several, and other similar non-descriptive modifiers. Specificly tell your reader that you know what your product can do for them based on facts, tests, case studies, research, etc.

4) Place the longest item at the end of a series.

Start your sentence structure with a simple message and work toward the complex call to action. This technique is less confusing and flows more logically no matter if your reader recognizes this fact or not. For example, if you have a series like "She was always later than Rick, rude and obnoxious." Try using "She was always late, rude, and obnoxious."

5) Entertain your reader.

You may not be in show business but your ad-copy must tell a
captivating story about why your reader must have the item or
service that you are selling. Tell a story or paint a picture
with your words and you will attain the goal of making a sale,
gaining a new client etc.

The next time you're struggling with your web page, sales letter, or e-mail message follow these 5 simple rules. They'll help you get your message across with more clarity and with greater selling power. Choose your words with strategy and precision, craft your copy to create a want or a need in your buyer, do this and you will experience a noticable success rate with your writing prowess!
