After seeing multiple hurricanes last year, we know now, more than ever that we need to be prepared for the worst. During and after a hurricane we can often be without power for a considerable time and while there are obvious inconveniences associated with that, there can also be many not so obvious health concerns as a result.

A loss of power will of course mean that we can't enjoy some of the luxuries that we've grown accustomed to such as television, air conditioning or email, but it also means that our perishable foods will last for a considerably shorter time. If we don't have enough non-perishable food to sustain us then we could be forced to either go hungry or eat food that may not be 100% safe. However with proper planning, we can utilize a portable generator to keep our refrigerator running and ensure that our food stays fresh and safe to eat.

Often times a loss of power is accompanied by a loss of potable drinking water. Non-potable water can be purified by boiling it, however this requires electricity. A portable generator will allow you to boil the water you need and ensure a steady supply of clean, safe water for you and your family.

A portable generator will also allow you to cook your food, which aside from ensuring a safe meal, will also provide some degree of comfort during this difficult time. Unless you have been without power for an extended time before, you may underestimate how much impact this can have on your family's mood.

There are also a number of smaller benefits that you'll gain, such as the ability to charge your electric razor, run a radio or lights, and even your water heater for a nice hot shower. The bottom line is that with a portable generator, you will help to ensure that your family stays as comfortable as possible during an extended power outage.
