Children missing:
Missing an education.
Missing a meal.
Missing a life,
and it many cases missing a mom and dad.
These are the children of Stung Meanchey. Stung Meanchey Is
the name of the Municipal Waste Dump, Phnom Penh. Cambodia.
In a country that is one of the poorest in the world, these
are the desperate children. the poorest of the poor.
As David Barboza Of The New York Times Said "Cambodia's
desperate Children"
Often barefoot and shirtless these children, some as you as
5, can be seen racing across the 100 acres of soggy worm
filled rubbish in front of the bulldozers to grab what they
can for recycing,
They can earn up to 2 dollars a day but the normal is about
70 cents.
70 cents for working 14/16 hours a day in a stinking,
burning, Dioxin rich pile of human waste. (A Japanese study
done 2 years ago found dangerously high levels of Dioxin in
the soil).
Even among such poverty there is still the worse off, these
are the orphans, who work, live and often die on Stung
Meanchey. There are at least 10 cases of children being
buried alive by the bulldozers dumping the loads as the
children jump in the jaws to grab what they can before
someone else does.
Buried alive or slowly starve to death not a lot of choice
for a kid, now is it?
There is always prostitution which is just a short walk
away, Many do sadly go that way, to a certain death from
AIDs.
It is these orphans that is the reason for this website
http://www.the-children.org and it is these orphans that is
the reason I am moving to Cambodia next month to start a
center to take at least( there are 600 to 1000 children
there on any given day 7 days a week), some of these
desperate children of the dump.
And it is for these orphans that I ask your help.
This Article has failed to paint a true picture of the
horror that is Stung Meanchey , for only if you see can you
truly understand.
