I started my first business when I was 23 years old. In the past I worked on little projects like selling home décor items to family and friends as well as selling faceplates on eBay. Although I never worked on something that was unique.

My first legal business was a residential cleaning and grocery delivery business. It was a unique combination of services that no one in my area was offering. When I first developed the concept I had $12,000 in the bank. I was unemployed at the time but I was planning to start my business in six months so I was hoping to obtain a job by then so I could work during start up. By the time I started my business my funds had dwindled and I was unable to obtain a job even with two degrees. Over the months I was unemployed I had over 20 job interview but no job offers. That lack of financing hurt my business as it only survived for two months.

The biggest thing I learned is to never start a business unless you have the capital you need. If you need to be working, make sure you are working before starting the business. Making assumptions will only lead you where it lead me, with a failed business and lost money.
