Police forces across the UK have sent a message of no tolerance to the thousands of UK drivers who are uninsured.

Currently, more than 400 cars a day are being seized by UK police because they are being driven by uninsured drivers – amounting to 150,000 seizures in the last year. That’s a 100% increase on the year before.

Police are now using number plate recognition technology and are working more closely with insurers who must register details of customers whose car insurance policies have expired on to the Motor Insurance Database (MID) within seven days – instead of within the previous 14 days limit.

It means there can be little hesitation from drivers when car insurance renewal forms arrive – however, that should not stop drivers from shopping around for cheap car insurance.

Thanks to the evolution of price comparison websites, you can compare dozens of quotes from car insurers in minutes to secure cheaper deals. More money can be saved if you search based on the manufacturer of the car you drive – such as Ford car insurance.

According to statistics, 50% of those who drive uninsured are under the age of 29. Younger drivers tend to be hit with higher car insurance premiums due to the reputation of some drivers as ‘boy racers’, a higher ratio of accidents and a general lack of experience on the road.

However, that does not mean that cheaper car insurance quotes are not obtainable. There are many specialist policies that target young drivers on the market, with added incentives and reduced premiums.

So don’t assume that being uninsured is easier than paying out for car insurance. Shop around for cheap car insurance, search by manufacturer such as ‘Ford car insurance’ and you can drive without the threat of losing your vehicle.
