Four Features of A Good Manual Twin Loop Wire Closer

If you are in the market for a good manual twin loop wire closer you may be baffled by all of the available options. Twin loop wire closers are used to finish the twin loop wire binding process by closing C shaped twin loop wire spines into round binding elements. The quality of the twin loop wire closer can make a big difference in the finished bound product that you end up with. Thus, this article is designed to help you know some of the most important features to look for in a good wire closer. Here they are…

1. Construction: Perhaps the most important consideration in choosing a twin loop wire closer involves its construction. A good twin loop wire closer should be made completely of metal and should be simple to operate. Wire closers that are not built well will tend to close wire unevenly over time compromising the quality of your bound documents.

2. Length: A second factor to consider when choosing a twin loop wire closer is the length of the books that you plan on binding. Wire closers are available in lengths as short as 12” (such as the GBC MC12) or in lengths as long as 24” with the Rhin-O-Tuff HC8024. Be sure to choose a twin loop wire closer capable of handling the largest size book that you plan on binding.

3. Adjustment Knobs: The best twin loop wire closers such as the GBC MC12, the Tamerica Durawire 450 and the Rhino HC8000 wire closers have dual adjustments for ensuring that the wire is closed equally on both the right and left sides of the closer. These knobs should be easy to adjust and the closer should have clear markings helping you configure your wire closer for different sizes of wire.

4. Size Compatibility: You definitely want to consider the size of the documents that you want to bind when choosing a wire closer. The Renz WBS 340 is the only wire closer that claims to have the ability to handle both 3/16” wire and 1/2" wire (probably because Renz is one of the only manufacturers of these two sizes of wire). However, if you plan on using one of these two sizes of wire which are fairly uncommon you might consider the Renz machine (with the optional module holder). Also remember to check and be sure that the wire closer is capable of closing both 2:1 and 3:1 pitches.

More than likely you will find that most of the twin loop wire binding machines that we carry are capable of meeting your needs. If you find this is the case you can make your final decision based upon price, brand name and design. However, these features should be secondary to the four features listed above.
