Star grading your establishment is not a compulsory in South Africa, however if you do not participate then your establishment will not be graded and this may affect your support. Star grading is really the reflection of your guests comments and opinions on your establishment.

The grading system basically works on one star being fair to good and five star being excellent. Those that decide to be a part of the grading system enjoy the benefit of your experience and comment. Your view will be captured and considered adding to desired end result of quality assurance. As an establishment owner you would need to apply with TGSA (Tourism Grading Council of South Africa) who will review your application and proceed with checks etc. If you are approved you will receive a certificate and status!

All establishments who have been graded have been checked and approved for such grading have to go through the time an effort of maintaining a certain standard in order to keep their status grading and hopefully improve on it with time. It is therefore advised that you always stay in well reputed start graded establishments – support the graded establishments so that we can keep a high standard of accommodation in South Africa.
