Using Mail Rules to Save Time With Safelists

A safelist is a membership site that allow members to construct emails that the safelist server sends to other members. This is a useful way of advertising your product or program.

Usually a safelist will allow you to send "regular" emails and "credit" emails.

Credit based emails are more desirable because they contain a link that allows the receiver to earn credits for "reading" you email. Clicking a credit earning link may add 10 to 100 or more credits to the account of the recipient. This means that other members are more inclined to read your credit based email.

But, to send credit based emails you must have credits in your account. It usually costs one credit for each recipient of your credit based mailing. So, unless you want to buy credits, earning credits by reading emails is a necessity.

On the other hand, regular emails sent by the safelist server do not contain credit earning links. These emails are less likely to gain the attention of other members.

When you join one or more safelists you'll be inundated by tons of emails. Some safelists send hundreds of emails per day. So, you can spend lots of time searching each email to determine if it has a credit earning link.

But, if you receive and view emails using a program like Windows Mail on Vista or Outlook Express, you can create mail rules to place the credit earning emails in a special folder. This will save time scrolling through each safelist email just to find if it's a credit based email.

Safelists usually ask for two email accounts. One is a "junk" email account dedicated to receiving normal mail sent by other members of the safelist. The other "good" email account is for announcements from the safelist administrator and sometimes paid solo ads from safelist members.

You should create two dedicated safelist email accounts. You can use a free email server or, if you have your own domain, you can create dedicated accounts on that server. You can use the same email accounts for all the safelists you join.

Two dedicate emails address might be a "junk" adrdress of trafficmail@domian.com and a "good" address of trafficadmin@domain.com.

Next, you'll need to determine the phrases within the emails that are associated with the credit earning links. For the safelists I joined the phrases that appear on a line associated with credit earning links are:

-- advertising credits
-- to earn credits
-- for your credits
-- Click this link to earn

Then, in Windows Mail under "Local Folders" create three new folders. These folders will eventually contain the safelist emails as follows:

safelist – will contain normal safelist email without credit links
credits – will contain all safelist emails with credit links
safelistadmin – will contain administrative email and solo ads without credit links

Now, create four rules that move the incoming emails to these folders.

The first rule moves all the normal safelist email to the "safelist" folder. This folder acts as a temporary "holding" folder. This rule looks like this:

Where the To line contains 'trafficmail'
Move it to the safelist folder

The next rule examines all the emails moved to the "safelist" holding folder and moves those emails with credit link phrases to the "credits" folder. This rule looks like this:

Where the message body contains 'advertising credits' or 'to earn credits' or 'for your credits' or 'Click this link to earn'
and Where the To line contains 'trafficmail'
Move it to the credits folder

The net result of these two rules is to store normal mail with credit links in the "credits" folder and normal mail without credit links in the "safelist" folder.

Two other rules process the administrative and solo ad mail in a similar way. These rules look like this:

Where the To line contains 'trafficadmin'
Move it to the safelistadmin folder

and

Where the message body contains 'advertising credits' or 'to earn credits' or 'for your credits' or 'Click this link to earn'
and Where the To line contains 'trafficadmin'
Move it to the credits folder

In each case, the first rule moves all the incoming mail to the holding folder. Then, the second rule moves only those emails contains phrases associated with credit links to the "credits" folder.

In the "credits" folder you can sort the mail by the "From" name to gather emails from each safelist together. Then click on those emails from safelists where you need the credits. You can delete the rest of the emails.

This technique helps reduce the time and effort it takes to earn safelist credits. And, it segregates the safelist emails from your other emails. Both effects are valuable time savers.
