Car Insurance - What type of cover to choose?

Insurers will normally give you three types of cover to choose from. Choosing the right one is important, so consider the options they give you carefully.

Third Party
This is the cheapest option. Third party car insurance provides you with the minimum amount of legal cover needed to drive on UK roads.

It will cover you for any damage that you cause to someone else's vehicle and it also provides protection for your passengers. If you are involved in an accident that is your fault, then any repairs needed for your own vehicle will not be covered by your car insurance.

Third party car insurance is a wise option to choose if you have a vehicle that is of low value, or if you are a driver under the age of 25.

Thirty Party Fire and Theft
Thirty party fire and theft provides the same amount of cover as described above; however, this type of insurance also covers your vehicle if it is stolen or set on fire.

Fully Comprehensive
This type of cover is the most expensive. It covers you for pretty much everything, including accidents that are your own fault. It also covers you for vandalism and accidental damage.

It's advisable to take out this insurance if your car is of high value.

An additional benefit of fully comprehensive insurance is that it entitles you to drive other people's cars. However, it's a good idea to obtain the permission of the car owner beforehand and to also double check with your insurer that you are definitely covered.
