The two main thoroughfares in the district are Robinson Road and Shenton Way which are home to many prominent landmarks. Raffles Place is the robust heart of the commercial area with many of the tallest buildings surrounding it which include The UOB Plaza, the UOB Center and the Republic Plaza. Majority of the district’s mass amount of establishments are on Marina Bay area, the most significant being Boon Tat Street which is shut down to traffic in the evening and transformed into an impressive al fresco dining spot. Among the multitude of buildings the Lau Pa Sat and the old Telok Ayer Market is the most outstanding.
The area is also known as the Golden Shoe as the boundaries are formed in the shape of a shoe. It consists of eleven planning areas and some of the district’s most dazzling views can be found at the end of the Clifford Pier. This area is filled with bars with outdoor terraces as well as many splendid Singapore hotels.
A number of hip restaurants and luxury hotels can be found in this mercantile hub. One highly popular luxury hotel in Singapore is Grand Copthorne Waterfront which has several award winning restaurants such as Café Brio’s, Pontini, Grand Shanghai and the Piano Bar.
