February 2007 – A1 Martinez Movers, a professional Houston apartment movers (Katy, TX) has listed their ten (10) checklists before moving.

1. Get, at least, three written estimates -- Do not always rely on phone or Internet estimates as the process tend to be miscalculated. As much as possible, get, at least, three written estimates from your short-listed moving companies and show them everything that will be moved. It is, rather, better that you get a personal inspection first of the items that you’re about to transport.

When it comes to selecting which moving company has written a better offer, do not always settle with the cheapest or with the highest quote, but do settle with a quote that has a satisfactory or excellent service background.

2. Testimonials -- When I mean satisfactory or excellent service background, do not hesitate to ask your bidding moving companies for testimonials from their previous clients. Knowing who exceeded expectations is already a point for them.

3. Ask Questions -- It has always been said to us: “if you do not understand something, ask!” There is no harm is seeking answers. But if you do get confused, you can consult others for opinion.

4. Plan An Off-Peak Season Move -- June to September (Summer) is the peak season for moving projects. If you need to move during the high season, avoid the end of the month.

5. Take Valuable Items And Travel With You -- Cash, coins, jewelries, mobile phones and other important documents and personal items should always be beside you when moving. Pack them in one baggage or can it, name it, and take it with you. And if you are traveling with a moving company, traveling items like clothing and toiletries should be put in one place or in the vehicle you are taking with you.

6. Carefully read and complete the Bill of Lading -- The Bill of Lading is the leagal contract between you and the moving service company. Make sure you have copies of the Bill of Lading and Inventories before departure

7. Final Check -- Do a final walk around your house and check all rooms, including closets and storage areas.

8. Provide the driver with contact information -- In case the movers need to reach you during the course of the move, they know where to contact you.

9. Acquire the driver’s truck number, agency and contact information. This will make it easier to reach the driver if you have questions or if your plans change.

10. Make sure the driver has the correct address of your new home or storage facility.
