Why would you want to participate in an affiliate program? Because there is nothing like "working" from a table at Starbucks on your laptop sipping a Latte tallying up your overnight haul while everyone else around you is hauling their backsides out the door in a frenzy to grab that $5 pick-me-up on the way to the J.O.B.

Being a successful affiliate allows you to work part-time and make the kind of money that puts you on a first name basis with the bank manager. You can build a generous residual income. It makes you the owner of a small business. Affiliate programs have already created lots of millionaires. These day job killers are the living testimony of how hard work, continuous promotion, staying motivated and building a portfolio of products that convert can pay off.

Should you decide to take this mission, Mr. Phelps, you must first know thyself. Because you won't have an overbearing boss bellowing for you to write that article, create that squeeze page and research those money-making keywords. Nope. You'll have the evil temptation of checking email every five minutes to deter you from writing that sales copy that sells. Remember Dirty Harry's stoic growl that a "man's got to know his limitations." Because if you aren't realistic about yours and your own ability to kick yourself in the butt to take action is something you aren't Emily Post about, then you're going to fall flat on your face.

Now, a few tips from our sponsor about finding good affiliate programs:

1. Pick a program around a product you like and have an interest in. If you can't stand golf, why are you trying to sell golf products as an affiliate? Just because the golf market is profitable doesn't mean you can promote it profitably. It helps if you have a passion for your market to begin with. Your enthusiasm will show. Use that to your best advantage.

2. Look for high quality programs that offer generous commissions. Ideally, look for products that are digitally delivered. Things like ebooks, software, membership websites. Think ClickBank.

3. Look at the vendor's sales pages. Do they light you on fire to buy the product yourself? If not, find something else. No matter how great you are at pre-sales, sending a prospect to a sales page that inspires click fraud as an avenue of escape does not make fiscal sense.

4. Does the product fall into a niche that supports a growing target market? How many searches per month are being done inside this niche? Don't have a clue? Then you need to find that out.

5. Don't be a part of programs that impose sales quotas on you in order to get paid. If you sell one copy of something, they should pay you. This is just a scamming vendor looking to cheat affiliates that aren't powerhouse sales machines.

6. Look at the vendor's affiliate resource page. Does the vendor have tons of great tools for their affiliates to use to make sales with? Do they have sample squeeze pages, autoresponder emails, banners, text ads, Google ads, etc? If not, you might want to find one that does, especially in the beginning of your career.

7. When you find that great vendor with all the cool affiliate tools to use in your bag of tricks, make sure you take the time to use their tools as a template and CHANGE the material enough to differentiate it from the majority of other affiliates that are just using the tools exactly as given. Make yourself UNIQUE. Don't duplicate what every other affiliate is doing. That just clogs

up the Internet with a billion of the same email messages and websites. Spin your provided content. Make it different. Make it your
own.

8. Write articles. Period. This is the single best method for generating FREE search engine traffic to your landing page.

9. Deploy an autoresponder. Build a list. You'll be leaving a king's ransom on the table if you get lazy about this.

10. Pay attention to what the gurus are promoting. When they all start spamming your inbox at the same time with a new product, jump on board, too. This is a product that is about to take off like a rocket. Cut yourself a piece of the same pie.

Use these pointers to find the best products available. If you keep these things in mind, you will begin to see success and ever increasing sales. Have fun doing this from your local Starbucks. It's a blast.
