A few weeks ago I helped my cousin install a
digital video projector in his basement. After having the projector sit on a coffee table for a couple days it was time his pride and joy be mounted properly. The installation though not terribly hard did take several hours, and even then it was not quite perfect. The picture did look marvelous in all its glory just not square to the screen.
The 100” screen he has might be a tad too big, if there is such a thing. Needless to say we hooked up his XBOX 360 and thru in HALO, which looked pretty awesome. I must say multiplayer games are suited for such a large screen. To end the night off we watched a movie. Movies and video games truly do benefit from the larger viewing area. Here are some things I learnt that afternoon:
1.) Buy a projector with lens shift because once the projector has been mounted into the ceiling without this handy feature it is hard to correct your image.
2.) Use a mounting kit as this will save you time, not sure how we would have managed if we did not have this.
3.) Soffits or joists are not always level and thus your projector will not be level if you don’t square it out.
Installation can be as easy as positioning the projector on a coffee table but after seeing the
projector in action and suspended from the ceiling it did make me envious to have one in my basement. After hanging the projector and seeing the results of our handywork, I think professional installation may not be a bad thing.
