The cut throat, consumer –oriented world ,most of us are likely to face frequent temptations to compromise our principles .Once we make anything in this outside world our priority we can be easily temped to ignore our scruples. Once we have enjoyed a measure `of the good life`, the life is sensual indulgence ,we get attached to it and not be prepared to let it go.
Marcus Aurelius said that” Receive wealth or prosperity without arrogance and be ready to let it go cheerfully .If you ever saw a hand cut off, or a foot or a head lying anywhere apart from the rest of the body----this is what does with himself who is not content with what happens ,and separates himself from others ,or does anything unsocial………”
The saints are depressed with the state of the people as they are preoccupied with the material world , this is why saints warn us that the world is a place of great danger. From this point of view that we are walking in the edge of a mountain and if we let our attention wander ,we may hurtle to our death. One of the practical measures we can take to help ourselves is to keep supportive company .Since we are naturally influenced by the company which we spend time with ,we should avid wrong company.
People these days look forward to spiritual goal which make them relax in their approach towards life and build up their calmness . However, exciting our lives or successful we may be by the yardstick of the world ,we are likely to get lost in the fog of our logic.
Having good intensions and speaking lofty words about spiritual values and more principles is not enough .The details of our daily lives –both at home and at work ---have to reflect our goal.
