Have you ever tried full color brochures or postcards to let your clients know about a new product? A new service? Freebies?

One of the biggest mistakes businesses do is to announce, rather than promote themselves. Most business owners inform rather than promote. What’s the difference?

Everything you send out should begin with the number one copywriting winner – the headline. Marketing experts have, time and again, emphasized that the first five seconds is crucial, very crucial. And that is true! You only have a few seconds to capture your potential client’s or customer’s attention. If your headline does not do its purpose, your potential client or customer will never go over whatever you are trying to say.

Always remember that it is called headline because it needs to ‘turn heads!’

Here are a few tips to write sizzling, head-turning headlines:

1. Make a how-to type of headline

Readers usually look at print ads because they are looking for something and what better way to get their attention than to direct your headline to what they are looking for. So far, How To’s are one of the most effective headlines.

Sample how to’s:

How to solve that problem with your pet ticks – once you have their attention then you can rattle your way towards promoting your product.

How to design the best postcards? How to create full color brochures that work?

2. Ask a question.

Asking a question is a bit like being personal with your reader. It involves them because we, in a polite society, respond to questions asked. An engaged reader is more likely to continue reading.

Sample questions.

Have you just been fired?

Do full color brochures work for your business?

3. Use client feedback.

People want to hear what other people say about your product or services. Testimonials are good headlines. Potential clients trust you more when someone else said something good about you or your product. Ever wonder why most weight reducing products or schemes use testimonials? ‘Gee, I lost five pounds in 30 seconds!’

Sample Testimonials.

‘Full color prints made my sales more colorful!’

‘Two thumbs up! The best picture of the year!’

Now that you have a few tips on how to write that very important headline, why don’t you try making your own and ask friends or associates how they feel about it before posting or sending it. Always remember that the best way to edit or proofread is to forget about it for at least a day. Sleep over it and you will find new ways of saying it.
