The term "Veteran", as it is explained in the dictionary is someone who is practiced in a specific field. In countries such as the United States, it refers to someone who has served in the military.
The United States Department of Veterans Affairs is a government department that implements the military veterans benefit system. It offers programs of veteran benefits for veterans, survivors of wars and their families and dependents too. Veterans’ benefits at the Federal level are the following: disability compensation, financial support for college, home loans, life insurance, medical and burial benefits, survivors’ benefits, and vocational rehabilitation.
Each state in the United States also offers benefits to veterans including education and property tax relief. Each state has particular condition to be eligible for these benefits.
Aside from the government, there are other private institutions and organizations that provide benefit programs for US veterans. Most of these institutions are manage by veterans themselves, so they know the special needs of this group. These organizations are normally associated with renowned establishments around the world in giving special discounts and freebies on travel and entertainment, gifts and shopping as well as health and wellness and other services beneficial to veterans.
There are other organizations and support groups that give free service to veterans. These groups help veterans and their loved ones seek the medical care they ought to have or work with them to interface with government agencies.
Veterans were also given a special holiday, called Veterans Day or Armistice Day to honor their contributions and services via conducting programs and parades and giving recognition. The United States considers November 11 as a federal and a state holiday as signed into law by President Eisenhower in 1954.
