Pilates for the Greene was formed by Rachel Greene, a certified Pilates for Golf Coach (TM) Advanced Instructor. Rachel has been practicing Pilates since she discovered it during her dance career. A golfer herself, Rachel quickly discovered how Pilates could help her game. Based in Charleston, SC, she conducts clinics, weekly classes and one-on-one sessions.
What is Pilates? The Pilates Method is a physical fitness system developed by Joseph Pilates during World War I. His system is built on the idea of muscle control and requires intense focus. The goal of Pilates exercises is to strengthen the deep torso muscles through alignment of the spine and awareness of breathing mechanics. These methods improve abdominal and lower-back strength that is essential for daily activities and also helps to prevent injury.
When is the last time you heard of a golfer being injured on the golf course? Actually, the golf swing is demanding on the body and a large number of golfers experience back problems. Pilates can help a golfer's musculature by correcting asymmetries. Golfers torque their bodies constantly, causing muscle imbalance. All this bending and twisting can negatively affect the golfers arms, shoulders, legs, hips and lower back. Many weekend golfers wake up on Monday morning with a sore back, tight chest muscles and reduced flexibility.
Pilates for Golf Coach (TM) is designed specifically to improve the biomechanics needed for a powerful, pain-free golf swing.
