Toshiba are usually associated with home entertainment systems and computers, but unbeknown to many people is that they also produce mobile phones.

The Toshiba Protégé G910 and G920 which are due to be released in quarter one this year, are folding Windows media 6 smartphones boasting touchscreen’s and full QWERTY keyboards. It measures 117 x 64 x 20mm and weighs in at 183 grams which makes it around the same size as the Nokia E90 (which measures 132 x 57 x 20mm).

The smart phone looks like a laptop when it is opened to reveal its 3”, 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard. The touchscreen is one of the highest resolution screens on the market, with other devices only managing 320 x 240 pixels with only a few phones managing 640 x 480 pixels.

Both handsets come with built in GPS, with the G920 equip with A-GPS compared to the G910’s standard GPS, and both come with Qualcomm’s gpsOneXTRA Assistance technology. Toshiba have stated that there will be a built in Sat Nav system, but you can add your own favourite Sat Nav package if you wanted too.

As already mention the G910 and G920 are Windows Media 6 smartphones and therefore come with pocket versions of office, internet explorer, and windows media player, accompanied by the Opera web browser. And don’t worry as security isn’t a problem, as both devices have a built in fingerprint reader!

Other features include Bluetooth 2.0, USB connector, microSD card slot (expandable up to 2GB), WiFi, EDGE, HSDPA, 2 mega pixel camera with auto focus, and a secondary camera for video calling. It has up to five hours of talk time and nineteen days of standby time.

Finally we come to the G910 and G920’s looks. The exterior of the phone is very minimal featuring a small display screen and three control buttons. The fascia has a partial leather effect covering, which certainly gives these devices a stylish feel capable of wooing your business colleagues!

Toshiba hope to have both handsets released during quarter one of this year.
