Technology is getting so far advanced now, that manufacturers have been able to begin design on a mobile phone which folds, turns into a bracelet and even changes colour completely. Sounds like the stuff of Sci-Fi, right?

Although it probably won't be available for purchase for another seven years, the Nokia Morph is already making the news, at least on the internet. At first glance the Morph is a piece of translucent green plastic complete with a circular earpiece clipped to it. Blink, and it has been folded into three, making it look like a regular mobile phone (kind of). Blink again, and it's been wrapped around the wrist like a bracelet.

The buttons on the Morph in its flat state are reminiscent of the quiz board on Blockbuster, but the honeycomb design changes to a more conventional one when folded. When the camera is selected, a transparent pane appears to frame your target. You then have the option of selecting this as a wallpaper, which will then change the appearance of the Morph completely. Take a picture of the pattern on your bag or shirt, then wrap the phone around your wrist and hey presto! You have a bracelet to match your outfit. Slide the lock option to lock the phone into this shape, and it will stay on your wrist.

And don't worry about getting it dirty; the Morph is superhydrophobic – or self-cleaning. Drop any liquid, however sticky, onto it and it will simply roll off. It will even tell you if your food is safe to eat; by analysing tiny particles from food items such as fruit and vegetables, the Morph will flash a warning signal if the item is contaminated. Handy on an outdoor picnic if you're worried about flies. Maybe you could even use it as a fly swat…

So how does it work? Well, without going into too much technological detail, the Morph uses nanotechnology and liquid batteries to enable the flexibility and transparency of the materials used. Millions of tiny micro-fibres help to hold the handset in a new position, while microscopic sensors within the materials make the whole handset work like a very thin, very flexible touch-screen.

While the Morph may not have all these functions when it finally does hit the retail market, it's safe to say that it will be more advanced than anything around at the moment.

Concept mobile phones may not be available yet, but you can see many other high-spec mobile phones online. With many cool features as standard, mobile phones are the gadget to be seen with.
