The cost of a wedding is soaring. We all want the very best on our Wedding Day, but it’s not always easy to stick to a budget when there are so many choices and products available to us.

Although your wedding invitations are a very important part of your wedding, they needn’t cost the earth. If you consider making your own you really can save a fortune, and not have to settle for second best either.

If you have the time, and a little inspiration, then you can certainly produce wedding stationery with a WOW factor.

There are lots of different styles and types of card blanks available now: plain folded cards, gatefold cards, cheque book style cards, wallet and pocket style cards. If you want to send RSVP cards, maps and maybe more information, then the wallet or pocket cards are a good idea as the inserts can be stored neatly inside and become part of the overall design.

When decorating your wedding invitations, there are many different types of embellishment to choose from: paper or fabric flowers, crystal hearts and flowers, gems and even diamante buckles. In addition, ribbons come in a myriad of colours and styles: satin or organza, plain or patterned, wide and narrow! You should be able to find something to fit in with your colour scheme.

It is worth getting some samples of various types of ribbon and embellishments and spending a few hours experimenting with designs – friends are a good source of inspiration and it’s a good way to spend a quiet evening.

Many people are worried about printing the inserts for their wedding invitations. This needn’t be too difficult if you are reasonably used to working with a word processing package and have a good quality printer. The most important thing is to set your paper sizes in both the document and in the printer options. We have wedding invitation insert templates available for the main sizes of card blanks.

There are many different fonts available as standard, but if you are looking for something a little more unusual then there are websites where you can purchase them at a reasonable cost, even for free.

If you decide to try and make your own wedding invitations then the main this is to try and enjoy the process – organising a wedding is a stressful time, but it can also be extremely rewarding.
