The study also added that Florida led the country in the number of winter residents, with about 818,000 tourists in 2005, followed by Texas and Arizona. However, with spiraling property taxes and the threat of hurricanes, Florida now faces stiff competition from other states that are starting to become attractive to retirees and young families, such as Georgia and the Carolinas.
