What is Web Development

Does anyone really know what “web development” is? Web development is a very broad term relating to numerous activities and procedures involved in creating a website. This can include anything from e-commerce business development, content development, server configuration to server side and client side coding. For those who are unsure of exactly what all of this is... I am referring to the non design aspect of creating a website.


A web developer is usually the person who makes the back end function (this would include search features, commands, uploading features etc) and not usually the person making the site visually stimulating and attractive.


Looking for a web developer can be slightly more daunting that hunting down your average designer, in the respect that you can view a designers work and immediately decide if you like it or not. A developer’s work however is something you would have to test or experience and even then it is hard to establish whether they can provide with EXACTLY what you are looking for as each business requires a customised site with features not usually identical to others.


The best way to go when looking for web development is to investigate the company’s referrals. If they have successfully developed websites, then perhaps visit the site, test its user friendly-ness and call some of their clients to establish whether they received efficient work that actually functions according to plan.
