Online bingo players who had previously qualified to enter into this fantastic bingo online tournament, gathered at their computers around the world.
It mattered not that most of these bingo players had never met face to face. Many of them have been firm online friends for a long time at Starlight Bingo.
Some of them are relatively new to playing bingo online, having joined after many land bingo halls enforced smoking bans.
Players were excited, maybe a little nervous, and of course the staff here at Starlight Bingo were a little twitchy too. What if something went wrong? We know we have the best in online bingo technology, but there is always that element of worry when there is an event being staged as big as the Bingo World Championship.
However, we needn't have worried, for all went very smoothly indeed. There was a flurry of GL's whizzing along the chat screen before each round of bingo started, followed by WTG's after each round was won.
Bingo players are generally great sports, and are very encouraging to one another, even if they didn't win a bingo themselves, they are always happy to congratulate the winner.
The bingo games were played out first by 'any straight line' games, with progressive prizes, then from game 16 onwards throught the bingo tournament, the bingo games were 'blackouts', a great favourite amongst many players.
The prizes increased in amount as the tournament proceeded, with the penultimate round having a great prize of $1000, and the final round paying out $5000, plus the title of Bingo World Champion 2008 to the winner!

Coming in at second place on the penultimate Blackout round was Guano winning $1000. WD Guano.
