With the plethora of pharmacological products on the market today, one could be forgiven for thinking that they are a panacea for all illnesses. However, this is largely hype as Western medicines, for the most part, suppress and mask symptoms. They don't reach the root of the problems.

This also applies to the many artificial vitamin products you are confronted with every time you go into mainstream pharmacists or even health food stores, which should know better. Very often these vitamins can't be absorbed directly and need a medium to allow them to work effectively.

However, you will be pleased to know that all is not lost. Nature has provided a remedy for all ailments, most notably in the form of herbs. Herbs are the dried parts of various plants including shrubs, trees, flowers and ferns.

Containing many powerful natural ingredients, they actually aid the body to heal itself. The body is equipped with a self-regulating system which will keep the organism is a state of balanced health. However, you do need to de-toxify first.

All herbs contain one or more active ingredient such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes and essential oils. Naturally non-toxic, herbs can be taken singly, or in combination. It is especially this non-toxicity which makes them safe and effective to use to treat many different conditions and ailments.

Herbs have a gentle, but deep-reaching affect on the body. Rather than suppressing symptoms, as Western medicines do, herbs restore the natural balance of the body. They tone the body's organs and glands, supplying the body with many vitamins and nutrients. This process helps the body to rid itself of the harmful toxic accumulations built up through a lifetime of wrong living. Once free of impurities, the body can begin to regain its natural strength, which allows our natural internal healing processes to begin to restore the body's natural level of equilibrium.

However, though non-toxic, herbs are very powerful and it is advisable to consult a qualified herbal practitioner before embarking on a course of treatment. The Chinese are still practitioners of herbal medicine, try consulting one of their admirable pharmacists or herbalists.

Herbs are but one of several natural remedies. Homeopathy is another admirable discipline, which is extremely efficacious. The homoeopathists gradually distil their remedies in a style reminiscent of alchemists. The final product is virtually impossible to see, but extremely powerful and effective.

Naturopathy is another natural remedy, but dispenses with virtually all medicines, preferring to use the power of psychology to work its effects.

Last, but not least is a natural fruit diet, which, by the natural enzymes present in the fruit, de-toxifies whilst still providing the body with many necessary vitamins. One of the most important vitamins which need to be refreshed daily, especially if you smoke or drink coffee, is vitamin C. Citric fruits are an excellent course of vitamin C. Fruit juices, especially, those produced naturally, can be one of the main components of a fruit diet.
