The shrub is often disregarded when it comes to landscaping as just a plant that fills space. Ornamental shrubs, however, are far more than that.

Most people assume that this type of shrub only applies to particular kinds of plants. However, this is not entirely true. In order for a bush to gain this type of status, it must be especially fantastic during a certain time of year, though nearly all plants can be considered ornamental depending upon the person planting them. Technically, a shrub that blooms during the season it is best known for (an evergreen during the wintertime, for example) can be placed within this category. So, what are ornamental shrubs best used for?

If you want to create a garden that flourishes all year long, choose shrubs that reflect each season. There are certain plants that grow bright red berries during the wintertime; plants that are wispy and feathery during the spring; and plants that really give off brilliant autumn colors as the weather starts to turn (of course, there are a lot of different shrubs that can be found during the summertime as well). If you want to place some of these shrubs in your garden, you’ll have to do a bit of investigating, though you are sure to find an abundance of these plants for every season. Of course, there are those shrubs that tend to grow during every season ...

What are ornamental shrubs that bloom during all seasons called? This type of plant can also be placed into the ornamental category, even though they flourish all year long. For example, chokeberry plants will perk up any garden all year long, so these are really spectacular. It is especially unique when plants that bloom during the winter months are grown. Most of the time, gardens become vast wastelands during those cold winter months, but some flowers poke their persistent heads up through the ground no matter what sort of weather happens to have taken over their world.

With a bit of careful planning, your garden will look gorgeous throughout the year. Imagine a garden that is in full bloom smack in the middle of January – now that’s inspiring! Of course, those spring and summer months should not be neglected either. Plants are entirely fascinating for their sheer ability to make a gardener happy no matter how disagreeable the weather outside may be.

If there is one thing to remember about plants, it is that they are always going to be around during those good days, and they will always lift your spirit during the bad days. Now that you know the answer to the original question (what are ornamental shrubs?) you can start planning your garden today.
