Winter is finally over, and summer is fast approaching. So, we all know what that means...Mothers Day is coming and with it comes the influx of unneeded gifts.

Now don't get me wrong, I love being a mother and Grandmother and it's so nice that they would take the time to get a gift for me. I could just do without some of the gifts that they give. You know which ones I mean, the sweater or knick knack (that was picked up at the last minute). I know their hearts are in the right place, I just don't need anymore of those things. I still have clothes with the tags on in the closet, and too many knick knacks to possibly keep dusted. They always hand me the gift and stand there, waiting for me to open it up with such anticipation in their eyes, that I can only open the gift and thank them profusely.

In my younger days, I used to do the same thing to my mother and grandmothers. I would buy them something just to have a gift to give them. They always accepted the gift graciously saying getting them a gift was unnecessary. They never told me they didn't like whatever I happened to get them. Once the shoe was on the other foot, I soon saw the error of my ways. I started really thinking about what they could use or possibly want and only bought what I thought they would really like.

When my children ask what I want for Mother's Day, I always tell them that a nice card would be just fine. That response seems to fall on deaf ears. They always think I'm just saying that to save them money. I don't have the heart to tell them the truth.

This year I'm going to try something different. When they ask what I want, I'm going to tell them that I want something personal. A gift they have hand-picked and comes from the heart. If they want suggestions, I'll tell them flowers or a plant would be nice. I would even take a knick-knack if it was truly meaningful. Heck, I would even like some scented candles. I'm not a hard person to please, I just want something that has some sentimental value, something that I wouldn't buy for myself. A gift that says they were actually thinking about me, not just buying the first thing they saw when they walked into the local department store. Is that too much to ask for? I sure hope not.

So, with that said, wish me luck. I wish you all have a wonderful Mother's Day. May you receive only meaningful, heartfelt gifts this year.
