If you work for a living it is inevitable that sometime in your career that you will have to take part in a business meeting. it is important how we handle ourselves in these meeting because it can have a great impact on our future. These meetings do not have to be thought of in the same light as a trip to the dentist. With a few good tricks of the trade you can work a business meeting to your favor.

Dress well because this may be the first and only chance that some members of management or clients will get to see you. It is always better to error on the side of being well dressed. Only choose casual attire if specified and still only choose attire that will be considered tasteful because good business dress is always acceptable.


It is best to assume that all that are attending the meeting are qualified and therefore there is no need for you to brag about yourself and showing off can have a very negative affect. Impress people by the good work you do and the quality of your presentations. Try to impress upon the group that you are a team player and you are always there for the team.

Don't always assume that your ideas are better than others. it is important to listen, wait your turn and don' be rude because you are not always right and all others are wrong. be complimentary to others because if everyone in the room assumes that there way is the only way then nothing will get accomplished.

Last but not least you should be professional because this is your time to shine. Don't gossip and make sure you take long breaks or don't use this time to get involved in petty company politics. You may be surrounded by people who do not know you and this will be the only time they have to place judgment on you. CEO's, Chairmen and other members of high management may be present at such a meeting and this may be one of the few opportunities that you have to impress them. It is important to think before you speak or act because this is not the time to slack off or act unprofessional, you should cease the moment.
