For those that own their own businesses, this thought has a lasting, permeating effect in their minds. If you work for yourself and do not work as if your job depends on it, then you are in jeopardy of losing your business, and thus your livelihood.
If you work for someone else, the thought process should be exactly the same. The fact that you have a job with your current employer all comes down to the fact that they believe you will make the company more money that you cost them. If you do not bring in extra money for the company, there is no point in leaving you on the payroll.
That being said, are you working to the best of your abilities? Your job does actually depend on that. You have the absolute power to make or break your company single-handedly. That may not be as apparent in a very large company as it is in a small one, but remember why you work in the first place.
If you don’t enjoy your job, please find a new one. Life is way too short to spend most of it doing something you do not enjoy. Find your passion and turn it into income! That is where you will truly shine and make the most of your life.
