Barbeque events can often be fun, casual days. That's a large part of what makes them so great - they give us the opportunity to spend time outdoors, socialising with friends, family and neighbours.

They often have the great advantage of starting on a positive note, since most people love the thought of spending an afternoon out in the sunshine. If you're thinking about hosting an event then you'll undoubtedly want to make sure that everyone has a good time.

What's the best way to make sure that you achieve this aim? As a starting point, it's worth noting that the more effort that you put in, the greater the reward.

If guests can see that you've really tried hard to generate a perfect day then they are likely to respond in a positive manner.

This doesn't mean that you'll need to be some sort of gourmet chef - most people are perfectly happy with simple food that has been well cooked.

So how do you make the most of the occasion? Your first step should always be to think about the requirements of your guests. This is probably most easily done when it comes to the food.

Some people are likely to have particular requirements when it comes to the food. This may be specific dietary requirements, or they may simply be matters of taste.

Either way, you need to make sure that you are going to prepare food that is suitable for all. There's little point in producing great sausages and burgers if one of your guests is vegetarian and would then be left to go hungry.

Give careful thought to such factors. If you're not sure about what people will want to eat then you can always play safe and provide a wider selection.

One point that people often forget when discussing preparations is the importance of knowing your BBQ. Whether you're using a top of the range Weber barbeque, or a more basic model, make sure that you understand how it works.

These simple tips should help you to create a great barbeque day.
