In order not to destroy the natural resources and the fun of other hikers, beginners and experts alike must always observe the basic rules and behavior in hiking. They will take only small to no effort to follow. Be sure to take the following guidelines into consideration and take a little step forward by learning about the hiking trails you want to take, as well as the weather and terrain conditions. And of course, don't forget to check with the local authorities for last minute updates and to take your map with you. Below are simple things to keep in mind.
You need to know the local regulations if you want to go on a camping and build a fire. Since there are specific camp sites and areas where you can make a fire, it would be illegal to do those activities outside those particular spots. Also remember that people go back to nature for the serenity it offers. Thus, do not upset the environment nor disturb nature by playing too much loud music nor shouting. Do not go rambling off and just stay on the hiking trails as you will only maximize the risk of getting lost if you do so.
Do not litter. You can only leave your footsteps behind. Take all your wastes with you and even if you chance on somebody else’s waste, be the more disciplined person; take the mess with you and dispose it properly. As much as possible, you should only use biodegradable products. In using any detergent or soap when washing, do it a fair distance, which is at least a hundred meters away from hiking trails and the nearest water source. You can also use fuel so you can burn any toilet paper you used. The same thing goes with other organic materials; they should be buried or you may take them with you upon leaving for animals not to feed on it.
If you wish to take your pets with you when hiking, again, you need to check first with the locals and you must keep them on guard all the time if the rules say so. The same goes with hunting and fishing: most of the time, for the protection of the hiking trails, a permit is needed before you can do both. Once you noticed any damage to the trail or with the signs, try to note down the right area and inform the authorities because if not, they can bring about tough conflicts for future hikers.
Know your environment and take good appreciation of it, for they facilitate renowned hiking trails and experiences. Do not destroy anything you'll come across with and always conform with the local regulations and abide by your own conscience too!
