Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

A lot of people experience health problems due to sitting too much on computers. These problems include neck and back pains, headaches, eye sight problems and problems related to wrist, including carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome means pressure on the median nerve as it enters the hand through a tunnel in the wrist. Since the median nerve provides sensory and motor functions to the thumb and three middle fingers, many symptoms may result.

To avoid carpal tunnel, use an adjustable seat. Adjust it according to your height and the position in which you feel the most comfortable. Keep changing your position and exercise a little if you have to spend hours on the computer. Select a chair which will support your forearms comfortably and does not interfere with movement. Keep the monitor directly in front of you.

Using the keyboard is very crucial. Unwise use of keyboard or its position can result in a lot of wrist problems. The keyboard should be placed such that your wrists are flat and your shoulders are relaxed while typing. If you think typing is too much pf a problem, change the height of your keyboard.

Use a mouse pad with wrist support pad. Try to keep it at a level close to the keyboard or directly above it. While reaching for the mouse, your wrist should not be elevated.

If you are using a laptop, make sure your shoulders, wrists and neck are not strained while using it and that you are in a comfortable position. Also pay extra attention to the level of your laptop with reference to the line of your eye sight.

Using all of the above tips, the risks of developing carpal tunnel syndrome will be greatly reduced. Paying a little attention today can save you a lot of trouble related to your health in the longrun!
